The Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Association of Administrative Law Judges (ALJ Union) have come to a Memorandum of Understanding that will allow in-person hearings again. This understanding allows ALJs to volunteer to hold in-person hearings starting May 4, 2022. Additionally, all ALJs will be required to start in-person hearings starting June 3, 2022, with the exception of ALJs who have a medical exemption. Please note that there will be safeguards in place regarding COVID-19 health and symptom of all parties to the hearing.
