COSTLY MISTAKES: Filing for Unemployment Benefits

When you file for unemployment benefits with the Employment Security Commission of your state, you usually have to say that you are physically and mentally capable of working. If you are filing for Disability Benefits at the same time as Unemployment Benefits, this is contradictory to what you are telling the Social Security Administration. If you received unemployment benefits at any time during the period you are alleging that you are disabled and applying for Social Security Disability Benefits, you may not be awarded your benefits or your alleged onset date may be changed to when your Unemployment Benefits end.
